The Axonics System is indicated for the treatment of the symptoms of overactive bladder, including urinary urgency incontinence and urinary urgency/frequency, nonobstructive urinary retention, and fecal (bowel) incontinence.
Yes, the Axonics System offers both types of Sacral Neuromodulation Therapy evaluations: a basic Trial or Peripheral Nerve Evaluation (PNE) and an Advanced Trial. Click here to learn more.
A clinician experienced with the implantation of other Sacral Neuromodulation systems can readily perform the implant procedure of the Axonics System because the procedure is consistent with best practices in Sacral Neuromodulation implantation. One material difference is that the procedure is less invasive—requiring only a 2.5cm incision and no deeper than a 2cm pocket for the implant—due to the small size of the neurostimulator.
The Axonics System delivers constant current stimulation, which helps patients maintain stimulation in the optimum therapeutic range. Constant current can overcome impedance changes, such as scar tissue formation around the implanted lead to continue to provide consistent stimulation over time.
The neurostimulator is ~5cc volume in size. This is ~60% smaller than the InterStim IITM neurostimulator (14cc).
The Axonics System is approved to provide therapy for at least 15 years, which includes a 15-year life for the neurostimulator and tined lead. The system may operate beyond 15 years at the discretion of the physician.
Yes, the Axonics System is full-body MRI 1.5T and 3T conditionally safe and head coil MRI 1.5T and 3T conditionally safe. Please reference the Axonics MRI Guidelines carefully before use to learn about the conditions, potential risks, precautions, and instructions on using MRI with the Axonics System.
